One interesting conclusion in the first half of the article is that adding some high reps/light weights into a low rep/heavy weight workout improves strength. The second half of the article seems to be a pretty comprehensive search of the literature comparing the effects of low rep versus high rep weight lifting on traditional endurance sports.

A few bodybuilding sytems actually use heavy lower rep, higher rep sets DC training for example you can do a heavy set of let curls (you do 6-8, then a couple of smaller rest/pause sets), after the heavy weight you can do what is called a 'widow maker' which is a very high rep set,. So say you do legs, after a heavy leg press, you might do a big set of say 20-30 (or more) reps of squatting for example (then you do a weighted stretch, but that's outside this discussion).
It's pretty late here in the UK, so I'll read it properly tomorrow, it looks pretty interesting article.
