I have a thyroid problem called hashimoto's disease (auto imune, my body makes antibodies to kill my thyroid hormones,, but I guess you know what I mean).
I take euthyrox, a medication that suplements a bit of my thyroid hormones,, but it is like a drop of water on a hot plate really.
Here's my question; can I safely eat seaweed to increase my thyroid function?

Hi Yvonne!
Good to hear from you. With this condition regular detoxifying is important and you need to stabilise adrenal function. If I was treating this I would need T4,T3 and reverse T3 levels. Specific supplementation should be considered to aid conversion to T3: Selenium, E-complex, B-complex plus additional B6. Seaweeds and chlorella chelate heavy metals - so yes, do use. Also use coconut oil on a near daily basis. Good luck, Pat.

I take an extra strong multivitamin from the Solgar brand. Reading the back of the bottle tells me that it should take care of all the supplementation you mentioned. I heard some rumors about the coconut oil earlier this month, so I bought a litre jar to replace my rice oil.
Now I'm sure I'm at least parcially on the right track.
Thank you very much!

Hi Yvonne!
Obviously one pill a day is simply supplemental to your focusing on the foods containing those nutrients also. If your medication is increased at most blood tests - you are not converting well and the nutrients are required in a specific balance - and many more may be required than a general formula can provide. Evaluate your protocol periodically. All my best, Pat.

Dear Pat,
It's an inspiration to see how you have defeated the health challenges you have encountered and succeeded as an athlete. I am just south of 40 and would like to transition to a full raw diet lifestyle . I would appreciate your advice and direction on how to get started. Thanks!

Hi!
I see you are not in UK - it would take a very long email to answer your question - and I need to know all about your health, eating habits and lifestyle before l could provide all the answers! Locally, do you have any raw-food groups you could meet up with? Failing that you can always purchase my book 'A Living Miracle' from my website - which provide the whole ethos of going raw and living foods. Let me know if I can help further. Happy New Year - and all my best from the UK! - Pat.

PostSubject: Hey   Nutrition related queries. EmptyMon Apr 26, 2010 2:17 am

I posted this question in another topic thread but I wanted to ask you directly if possible. I want to know how bad alcohol is on muscle gain?

I understand it messes with the protein synthesis. But what is the practical effect of like 1 or 2 drinks per week?

Thanks

Hi Patrick!
lt is unlikely that one or two units of alcohol per week would make any difference to muscular gain, assuming nutrition is sound and an effective exercise strategy is in place. l recommend you monitor your eating, your exercise and the results of that over a two to three month period. Should no gain occur - switch to another strategy.
Hope that helps, all my best Pat.
