PostSubject: compression garments   compression garments EmptyMon Jul 05, 2010 10:21 pm

I've been thinking about buying some compression pants (when I can afford to) and then a shirt if I like the pants. My main exercise is heavy weight lifting with some occasional kettle bells, stretching, yoga, walking and jogging.

Does anyone use compression garments?

Did you find them to be effective?

I use steelstretch tops on occasion & have found them pretty good. I must admit it's purely for aesthetic reasons, not for any sort of functional performance improvements Embarassed

lol!
What I'm really interested in is their ability to reduce DOMS and speed recovery time, often I'm still a bit sore for 3-4 days after I train. I'm currently on a 3 day training split and I'd like to be completely recovered in less than 3 days so I can train my best on the following 3 days. I'm thinking though, maybe this is just how my body works and I should try a 4 day training split.

DOMS are a tricky one as it can be lack of recovery, lack of nutritional factors, outside factors (stress, etc) & for some there is certainly just the genetic disposition towards getting DOMS more than others. If you've covered the other issues I'd consider either a four day split, a light/heavy system or some other way to split it up. Say you tend to get DOMS when you do lower body work (lunges being a common example of something that can cause DOMS), then you could do something like a upper/lower split & do a workout either every other day - so Mon upper, Wed lower, fri upper, sun lower etc.

Other factors that can help DOMS are massage - you can either pay someone, or at the very least invest in a foam roller & tennis ball & do some self myofascial release style work, also stretching & mobility work will help as well, also stuff like warm baths, sauna etc can help, so you might want to experiment with a few of those & see how you get on.
I'm not sure clothing alone would help much in that situation & something that more actively attacks the issue might be more successful than the 'quick fix' idea of just buying an outfit to sort it out (although it's not impossible that it might help you?).
Hopefully that will give you a few ideas to help you get to the bottom of your issues.
