| Subject: Resistance training with soy vs whey protein supplements in hyperlipidemic males Tue Dec 07, 2010 3:32 pm | |
| Basically this was done on guys at risk of cardiovascular disease. The findings are even overweight guys had no difference in results whether using soya, whey or indeed no added protein - so could it be that the overweight do not benefit from added protein where the leaner male might? I'm not sure, I'd certainly like to see more work on overweight & how they utilise added protein. I certainly think most people wanting to add muscular size benefit from added protein, but it may be that overweight males (possibly females?) many not actually benefit at all, so you'd just be adding in useless extra calories? We'd have to see with more research. The choice quote would be: - Quote :
- Participation in a 12 week resistance exercise training program significantly increased strength and improved both body composition and serum cholesterol in overweight, hypercholesterolemic men with no added benefit from protein supplementation.
