What multivitamin do you take?
I try to eat enough food each day that is apparently meant to provide me with my required nutrients (except B12 of course), but unless you're eating totally organic food, your always going to fall short in my opinion.

I always take this one daily:

and this magnesium:

and also have some iron:

and some zinc

but I don't normally have them daily, as I think I'm getting a reasonably amount in my diet.

And then I have about 500mL of enriched rice milk (with my shakes) which gives me more B12, B2, Phosphorus and 600mg of calcium.

I was wondering if there's a better vegan multi out there...

I've yet to meet a multi that stands up well above the others, they all seem fairly similar. I use a basic multi from healthspan , but I also take a B complex (including B12) from viridian, a vitamin D, again from viridian, DHA from healthspan.
I also take stuff like glucosamine again from healthspan - Yes I know a glucosamine pill isn't the best option - given the choice I'd go for powder - as we all all know to make pills you need to add moisture which in turn starts to breakdown of the glucosamine, so powder is the best option to maintain stability of the glucosamine, but I've yet to find a suitable powder in the UK, that is both economical enough & suitable for vegans. I also test out supplements & stuff just to make things more complicated Laughing yes I do sometime rattle like a pill box bounce *rattle rattle*

I know what you mean about rattling like a pill box, Laughing with my partner and I working at health food shops, we always both want to try new things. Sometimes I'll also bring home expired things (assuming they're safe). I've got herbal tablets for all kinds of ailments. We're concerned we'll have enough supplements to open our own health food shop soon. Laughing

PostSubject: looking for some help   multivitamin EmptySat Mar 05, 2011 8:31 pm

I am trying to stay healthy, and one of the first steps I am taking is to take a multivitamin. It's nothing fancy, just equate multivitamin supplements. Right now, I am just taking half of one(they are huge!) every night. Is that best? Is that too/not often enough? What do you do? Thanks for your help!

Obviously we don't know what brand, but I can probably say with some certainty that's it's not too much. If night is the easiest time to take it then do that. Just make sure it contains B12 - I know it often tastes gross, but I'd consider chewing the pill & keeping it in the mouth for 30-60 seconds just so some of the B12 can be absorbed by the modified lymph capillaries under the tongue. That just increases absorption for most people.

Basically the diet is most important with a B12 source & for some more northern (or more southern if you're the other side of the world) I suggest a minimum of 1,000 IUs of vit D (D2 is what you're after not D3 as nearly all is from animals-you can find 1 or 2 brands now bringing out vegan D3, but it's rare & not cheap) at the very least you should take this winter & spring - I personally take 2,000IUs all the time, helps keep the blood levels about right (for me - everyone is slightly different in their needs for vit D)
