Found this interesting website. Are they saying glow worms and fire flies are the same creature? Note one section is called "glow worms and fire flies world wide".
I had never really known of fire flies until a few years ago, surely enough, I was on my bicycle and coming through this wilderness area on the way home, it was during late July/early August in fact late at night I was stunned, there were so many fire flies, they appeared a bit like christmas lights strung out. They were all over the place of this forested area.

Above link is a picture, I have a feeling that picture is a multiple exposure meaning possibly taking a few shots of the same bug's movements at different times or some sort of photographic technique. I certainly saw nothing that dramatic but it does give you an idea of how abundant they can be.
